Love, love DOUBLE LOVE me some fall. Crisp air, breathtaking foliage, and let’s not forget hitting the ‘enable explicit’ button on my music app as I burn rubber out of my kids’ pre-school parking lot. And dear lord don’t even get me started on fun size Butterfingers. Hang on… I’m getting a little verklempt.
But hands down, the most wonderful of all the wonderful is a good fall festival. Sitting on a patio enjoying a drink with friends, rocking out to some Oompah, eeking out the last little bit of good weather before it gets dark at 3pm and you fight the urge to stab yourself in the face with an icicle. Also I love pretzels.
This weekend kicks off our family’s line up of fall festivals with Oktoberfest at the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten and I swear to god my head is about to explode pumpkin innards all over the wall. I have been to several events at the Biergarten and lemme tell ya – they don’t mess around. Hello… German beer world headquarters. As Adolphus Busch said* when he founded the brewery in 1876, “You want Oktoberfest? I am Oktoberfest. I’ll give ya Oktoberfest so hard it’ll make your head spin.”
*in my mind
Festivities are three days long and begin this Friday at 5pm in traditional Oktoberfest fashion with a ceremonial wedding (yes – it’s a thing) and tapping of the first keg. Saturday runs from 1-10 and Sunday is noon – 5pm, all at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery & Biergarten.
Tickets are available here. They cost $30 and include a commemorative Oktoberfest stein, two beers and one food item. Youth tickets are $10 for ages 4-20 and include one soft drink and one food item. Children 3 and under are free. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Now let’s get down to brass tacks. You wanna go, right? You wanna go for free, right? First tell me how awesome I am. Now tell me how skinny I look in these jeans. Okay now rub my shoulders. Not so hard. Fine. I’m giving away two adult tickets and all you have to do to enter is to ‘like’ their Facebook page here then leave me a comment below telling me you’ve done so. Easy, huh? Do it now.
I’ll randomly draw a winner on Wednesday, September 23 at noon. The prize is transferrable so even if you don’t live in St. Louis but know someone who does enter and if you win they’ll totally owe you a big favor. The winner can even pick which day works best; Saturday I may or may not unleash my backspin if the band busts out some Hände zum Himmel .
Hope to see you there – Lederhosen optional.
